Giddy Yoyo foods are not the same as other organic or fair trade products. While our goods are organic or wild harvested, direct and fairly traded, there are additional attributes that make our products unique. We go to great lengths to source foods nourished by mineral-rich soil & fresh water, and grown in healthy remote environments. Our products are untouched by genetically modified organisms, the practice of hybridization, and chemical solvents and metals regularly used in the practice of bringing foods to market. And of course, they’re delicious!

A Cultivated Art is all about bringing sustainability, functionality and beauty to our urban and suburban landscapes.

A yard can be a living space, a play area, a quiet retreat, it can produce food, filter the rain water which pour off of our roofs and can support plants which cool the air and shade our homes in the summer. It can support pollinators and birds, help us all reconnect with nature and can create an oasis right outside your door.

The spaces around most homes are full of unrealized potential. Potential to become functioning ecosystems and extensions of our lives. Even on small urban lots houses rarely cover more than half of the property but very often the planning of space, style and function that goes into the creation of our homes stops at the walls rather than continuing into the outdoors take advantage of the incredible possibilities represented there.

An urban yard can be sustainable, organic and resilient. It can also be low maintenance, productive and beautiful. What needs to change is how we think about these spaces and how we use them to create sustainability. The planning needs to go below the surface and evaluate function both from a usability standpoint and an ecological one.

With years of experience and a passion for design A Cultivated Art can help you transform your yard from an underused space into a natural, sustainable oasis.

Permaculturist, occasionally ravenous mulberry harvester

When I first came across the term permaculture, it perfectly connected my lifelong ideals for abundance, deep ecology, and community resilience.

Back then, I was occupied in a water resources engineering career path. I am blessed to be experienced in GIS mapping, drainage plans, erosion control, stormwater ponds, ditch designs, navigating regulations, and public presentations. Another outcome of this is I am a licensed professional engineer (P.Eng.). All this happened while permaculture ideals tugged at my heart.

In 2011, after ‘graduating’ from my engineering career, I completed my Permaculture Design Certificate at the Finger Lakes Permaculture Institute.

In 2012, EDEN in SEASON was born. EDEN in SEASON represents the marriage of my 7 years as a water resources engineer with my passion for permaculture (ecological and community design), also known as ecological engineering. That year, I started my first edible forest plantings, established a school demonstration garden, and experienced working on a diversity of edible landscapes and landowners.

In 2014, the Garden of Eating is established as EDEN in SEASON’s demonstration farm.

Wild Craft excels at empowering our clients. We want you to have the confidence and self-assurance to maintain and evolve designs over time, and to continue your permaculture education after we’ve let go of your hand. Wild Craft has been instrumental in strengthening the permaculture community in London because we believe that the bigger the support network, the faster we can affect broad positive change in the world. We are members of the Carolinian Canada Forest Garden Guild, a team of practitioners who hold networking events, do outreach and document research.

Certfied Organic  Seeds, Plants produce CSA.

Open pollinated, heirloom, rare

Matchbox Garden & Seed Co. was founded in 2006 by Hanna Jacobs. Over the years, we have provided the Greater Toronto and Hamilton areas with fresh food through our CSA, farmers markets, and restaurant clients.

With our beginnings in the heart of the busy West Queen West, Toronto neighbourhood, Matchbox springboarded from the 1000sqft mini urban farm, to the Mcvean Incubator Farm run by FarmStart. Building relationships through our participation in the FarmStart program allowed us the privilege to work with many different people and organizations.

We have been fortunate enough to produce our seedlings at the Fresh City Farms Greenhouses, in Downsview Park, spend 3 years farming on Mcvean Farm in Brampton, as well as 1 year at The Living City Campus on Kortright in Vaughan, Ontario.

We currently operate the gardens on 3/4’s of an acre just outside Caledonia, Ontario. All our gardens are no till and on a minimum 4 year crop rotation. We use ally and companion planting as a key part of our Integrated Pest Management System. From the very beginning of my gardening journey, I applied organic methods to all my growing. One of the great motivations for the founding of Matchbox was, and still is, the desire to contribute to a more environmentally sustainable future.

Borrow. Grow. Return.
The seed library is a free program that is being launched to empower community members by reducing a barrier and increasing our ability to feed ourselves wholesome foods by offering seeds and education.

Beans, peas, lettuce, tomatoes and peppers all self pollinate, so it is easier to collect seeds from them that are true to the variety. It is preferable to have seeds in the library that are non GMO, organic and heritage, but I do not want to deter donors by only accepting those.

Choose some free seeds to take home and plant. Enjoy your fresh herbs, vegetables and flowers. After your harvest, please bring some seeds back to the Library, if you can, for others to enjoy next year. There are no over due fees!!!!! 🙂

As you are harvesting and closing your gardens, please put some seeds aside for the Erin Seed Library.

Toronto Bee Rescue is dedicated to the humane removal and relocation of established honeybee colonies within the Greater Toronto Area.

We remove honeybee colonies from homes, sheds, decks, and other man-made structures. We will also collect swarms of honeybees that have clustered on tree branches, fences, etc. The collected honeybee colonies are then relocated to more suitable locations where they are able to thrive as beneficial pollinators to the local environment.

Our Goals Are:

1.To provide a humane manner in which to remove honeybee hives from structures
2.Relocate the rescued honeybee colonies to more suitable locations
3. Find great urban locations for honey bees
4. Provide the GTA with local honey

Toronto Bee Rescue started providing it’s services in 2011 to fulfill the need for humane honeybee hive removal in the Greater Toronto Area.

1041 Christner Road, New Hamburg, ON, Canada

Originally started in 1918, Nith Valley Apiaries is in its centennial year. It has been passed on through four owners, each of them learning from the previous beekeeper. Our beeyards dot the countryside throughout Perth and Waterloo counties. There are up to twenty hives at each beeyard, and these hives allow us to provide honey to the residents of New Hamburg and the surrounding local areas.

We believe in working within sustainable local food systems and place a high value on supporting our ecosystem, our local farmers, and our community. We want to offer the best quality we can in our honey products and customer service. We are constantly learning about techniques used by other beekeepers and ways we can support pollinators, and as we learn we are incorporating this knowledge into our business practices. Over the last few years we have been exploring healthy new products such as bee pollen, propolis, and small-batch specialty flavoured honeys. We’ve also added plants and habitat spaces to our farm to better support pollinators. Learn more about what’s happening and who’s behind it all here.

We currently supply a number of local stores and restaurants, as well as retailing directly to the public from our ‘Honey House’ on the edge of New Hamburg. We offer a variety of quality honey products & varying specialty gift items, and you can visit Our Products to see what’s available in the honey house right now. Bulk honey is always on tap and we are happy to fill your own containers.
