In a world of health-conscious parents and confusing ingredient labels, Love Child Organics was created in 2013 on the promise of delivering truly healthy, clean and organic, baby and children’s food products.

Everything started when the founders, Leah and John Garrad-Cole, had their firstborn daughter, Poppy. As new parents, they were shocked (and frustrated) to discover most of the ‘organic’ baby food and children’s snack products contained unnecessary additives that were certainly not ‘real food’ and too often, also contained empty ‘filler’ ingredients that provided little nutritional value.

Leah, an experienced and enthusiastic home cook, began preparing her kids’ 100% clean, organic meals at home, and always added superfoods to ensure that each bite provided optimal nutrition for growth. She wanted her children to grow up with an appreciation for healthy ‘real’ food, right from the start, and for clean, nutrient packed food to be her family’s norm. Prior to becoming a mom, Leah worked for many years as a teacher of students with special educational needs, and she knew, without a doubt, the importance of a healthy diet for children’ optimal growth and development.

With Leah’s homemade recipes in hand, Love Child Organics was born, with the hope that all children could have access to truly honest, pure and delicious organic food that would include as many nutritionally-rich ingredients as possible. As a parent-founded, “values-first” company, Love Child Organics aspires to create only the highest quality organic baby and children’s food, and to run our business with a sense of social responsibility, making a difference on larger scale.  We look forward to the privilege of growing our product range alongside you and your families. From the Love Child Organics’ kitchen to yours.

Main Level

Filled with great vendors!
Don’t miss the area past Mapleton’s Organic and across from the MadeGood booth in the northeast corner.  (When not being used by the conference this is the University of Guelph Daily Grind coffee shop!)

The event experienced its 30th annual staging in January 2011, when an entire generation shared its organic family experience (the 3-generation Manley family).  With the 31st annual, 2012 Conference, the event headed into its next 30-year generation of growth. This was accomplished by sowing the ‘Seeds of Co-operation’ which was a successful focus on the U.N.’s International Year of Co-operatives.

For 2013, the 32nd annual 4-day event included international speakers, seminars & intro workshops on key topics including, Genetically Engineered foods, organic production/certification, changing climates, permaculture concepts, sustainable buildings, farmland protection, food security and home microgreens.

From producer to consumer, the workshops offered something for everyone. PLUS, there was an Organic Tasting Fair with 150+ exhibitors (included 30+ food samplers) on Saturday/Sunday, free to the public. This became an opportunity to sample and purchase a wealth of organic, fair trade products.

Continuing to Grow

Since 2014 the conference has continued to grow, welcoming new speakers each year and the Trade Show now includes over 160 tables. Guelph welcomes everyone so take a mid-winter break at the University Centre.   This Conference always wants to be on the leading edge of the movement, so come out and see what’s new !

Dormio’s fundamentals are simple…our mattresses and bedding accessories must be natural or organic. We have the most comprehensive natural & organic latex mattress selection available anywhere, covering a full range of prices starting with our most basic sets, right through to our luxury sets. We use wool in all of our mattresses and in many cases very thick layers of wool to make them luxuriously comfortable. Most of our mattresses can be customized both before and after the purchase through re-arranging or exchanging of layers or with a side split layer (for couples with different needs and preferences).

We use natural & organic latex, organic wool and organic cotton in all of our mattresses.

Natural & Organic Latex is the most durable, elastic material used in today’s mattresses. It’s ideal because it’s flexible yet stable; it’s absorbent,    resilient and provides excellent heat and moisture regulation and air circulation.

Organic wool is a very important ingredient in our natural mattress “recipe”. The unique structure of the wool fibre makes it both  breathable and moisture wicking. A mattress’s wool layer also acts as a natural flame barrier, allowing the mattress to comply with fire-  resistance regulations.

Organic Cotton is all you will ever find covering our mattresses, grown without the use of any synthetic agricultural chemicals such as fertilizers or pesticides. It’s grown from non-genetically modified plants. Whether it’s an organic canvas, a two way stretch or four way stretch organic cotton we always deliver an amazing feel.

Could have organic seeds but not Certified Organic…

The Toronto Seed Library (TSL for short) was initiated in November 2012, primarily by the Occupy Gardens Toronto collective and students from the University of Toronto and York University. Together a growing cooperative of individuals and organizations, seed savers, gardeners, farmers, educators, librarians, policy makers and food lovers of all varieties are creating a free, self-perpetuating seed library system.

At the seed library people can pick up free seeds, but must try to save some seeds and return them to the library. The saved seeds don’t necessarily have to be the same variety that was check out — and don’t worry there aren’t any late fees for crop failure or accidentally eating all the seeds (a common problem for tomato growers!).

In 2013 we spearheaded the TSL program, establishing 6 branches, attending dozens of events, collecting, processing and sharing thousands of packs of seeds and much more.

In 2014 we have expanded to 14 branches, and counting, and have attended over 50 community events, including ‘literaseed’ workshops inside the Toronto Public Library, a ‘how to start a seed library’ Webinar with the Ontario Library Association, inspired countless seed libraries near and far, while distributing over 50 000 seed packs to thousands of gardeners across Toronto, Canada and even the world, and mulch, mulch more. No big dill*!

Future

Over the fall and winter seasons, we will engage in outreach, events, organizing seedy gatherings and undertaking a process of collective evolution in preparation for an improved seed growing, sharing and saving program for the 2018 season. With your help, we are sure the TSL will continue to grow and propagate itself.

We envision a network of seed libraries across the Seedy of Toronto, inside Toronto Public Libraries, schools, community centres, places of worship, and other public spaces. To this end we are working with diverse organizations across the city creating partnerships and building branches of the seed library.
