521 Burbrook Place, Old East Village, London, ON, Canada

The London Brewing Co-operative (LBC) is a micro-brewery located in London’s Old East Village at 521 Burbrook Pl., London, Ontario. The brewery is organized as a worker’s co-operative and, as a co-operative, we are all about our community and our community partners. We want to change the conversation that surrounds beer and the place of a brewery in a community. We aim to establish a different relationship with beer. We are a brewery that places quality over quantity. We are producing a pint best served over conversation. Our aim is to bring Londoners together and to help with making London a destination for food and drink tourists. We live where we brew. The members of the London Brewing Cooperative are not just brewers. Part of our ownership group also are owners of On The Move Organics and The Root Cellar Café. These two businesses reflect the spirit of the London Brewing Co-operative. Founded on the goal of bringing to market locally-grown organic produce On The Move Organics and The Root Cellar Café are key actors in promoting local farmers, organic produce, and food democracy. We are interested in building a web of local businesses that work with the community and promote worker-centric organizations.

We aim to help create local industry around brewing. The fertile soil and growing conditions of Southwestern Ontario can support a robust hop growing venture and we are already in discussions with an Ontario malter to brew with local, organic barley. We are also creating processes that reduce the waste around brewing and will ensure that we are an environmentally conscious brewery. Our brewery has been built with reclaimed materials and is minimalist in all areas when possible. Our brewery will help to demonstrate what can be achieved with innovative ideas around building practices, building materials, and labour engagement.

Organic Baking without Compromise

Little Stream Bakery hand crafts each loaf of its naturally leavened (no yeast added), stone ground flour bread using only organically grown grains. The loaves are then baked to perfection in a wood fired oven. Taste the difference that integrity and commitment to quality can bring!

At Little Stream we take bread’s reputation as the staff of life seriously. We bake simply; most of our breads contain only whole grains, deep well water & unrefined sea salt with the occasional addition of seeds.

The Bakery

Little Stream Bakery is located in the Upper Ottawa Valley on transitional land at the edge of the Canadian Shield. We are a small business with environmental integrity and pride ourselves in hand crafting each loaf. With our expansion and relocation to a renovated dairy in the hamlet of Glen Tay, near Perth, we are now able to complement our staple line of breads with a variety of rustic pastries.

Since establishing Little Stream Bakery in 1992, we continue to receive many letters and phone calls from our customers saying how much they enjoy our bread. Our baked goods are available in fine natural and fresh food stores and are served in several select restaurants throughout Eastern Canada and the North East U.S.A.

We became organically certified in 2004, after many years of interest in organics and several growing trials to find organic techniques that were effective and compatible  with our growing system. Organics is important to us.  We believe that the organic greens we grow are:

  • healthy for consumers to eat,

  • our way of producing our greens is good for the environment,

  • that we have a healthy workplace for our staff and our family to work and live in.

Our milk is processed and sold directly to our customers. As a result we can keep the prices down and make organic dairy products more accessible for everyone.   Our community will have back a small dairy processor creating jobs and helping the local economy.

On an organic farm our animals must go outside to exercise and socialize everyday weather permitting.  We compost their manure and work it into the soil immediately after application which minimizes smell and pathogens.  We use homeopathy to treat our animals for illness, although it is seldom necessary.  We think this is because they are eating healthier organic plants and are in an environment that is free from stress as much as possible.  As a result, they produce healthier milk.

We are very careful when we take our beef and chicken to the abbatoir.  We make sure it is done as humanely as possible.  We take this very seriously and we are thankful for the food.

We offer many local and organic whole foods all of which are available in our farm store and through our home delivery service.

We are also pleased to offer organic, local, and whole foods from our friends and neighbours:

Our family began making maple syrup with family and friends 23 years ago. Back then we used 100 pails to produce roughly 25 gallons of pure maple syrup.  Today our operation has expanded to roughly 30,000 taps on vacuum tubing systems that cover 15 local woodlots.

Our syrup is harvested from some of the most fertile woodlots in Ontario resulting in our unique rich flavor.   With the use of modern processing equipment, Shady Grove Maple can process up to 4000 gallons of maple sap per hour.  It is our pleasure to pass on “mother nature’s sweet perfection” from our trees to your table. Shady Maple is proudly certified organic by Ecocert Canada.  We are also a federally registered facility.
